Keep it on Nixie. If my linux prof would have explained it like you, i
would have written my own distribution now.^^ This helped me more than 3
    semsters at college.

I should search in Google and Wikipedia to find the answers, but do you
know (or anyone else) what is the difference between the ext2, ext3 and
    ext4 file systems? I know I select ext4 when I create a file system on a
partition but I don’t understand the technical differences between
ext{2,3,4}. Though, I’ve heard that the Linux ext file systems are derived
or spun from the IRIX Silicon Graphics xfs proprietary file systems. Is
    that true?

I got to get back into this. I was compiling my own NetBSD sources before,
but then I started using Win7 and man have I become incompetent since
then… yeah, BSD is great but it’s not Linux.

Hi Nixie, what’s the name of the background song you used in this video?
it sounds like a happy remix of NIN – The Downward Spiral.

On the whole /mnt and /media thing.
What I can tell from reading the FHS is that /mnt is for permanent mounts
such as extra internal harddrives etc and should be defined along with
    other mountpoints in /etc/fstab.
/media on the other hand is for removable media such as thumbdrives, SD
cards or external harddrives, the mounting of which should be defined as
udev rules since they aren’t reliably there, they might be pulled out for
    example. ❤

Hi Nixie, Thanks for awesome put-2gether tuts and info especially related
to linux. I am IT tech whom has recently found a new respect for linux and
find myself playing around with it alot. I have found alot of answers for
questions i have had during my hands-on training, but I have one question
that really bugs the crap out of me. What i want to do is this –> I have
created a folder in /home/[user]/[folder] where [folder] has a few
subfolders and a total of 3000 files. My problem is I am busy setting up a
server based test enviroment where case sensitivity is critical to proper
function. (all the files in question has been moved from a windows machine
as requirement for the server to work 21Gb in total) I need to bulk change
the files and folders to lowercase for the server to work properly and all
the tuts i found involving the use of ‘rename’ and ‘mv’ has proved
    ineffective.

/usr is big hence give them a own partition makes not much sense. When you
don’t have inlimited space – having too many partition limits yourself
again and having not propertly sized them relatively will hurt you again.
Easier when you don’t have silly partitions for no good reason.

I believe the /mnt directory is no longer used for filesystem mountingon
Ubuntu. Instead, /media/(username) is used. Of course, you cold always
specify where you want a filesystem mount via command line (using something
like sudo mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/sdb1), as long as the folder you are using
as a mount point aready exsists (appearently, mount cannot make new
    folders).
